Liberica, often termed the "forgotten" coffee species, originates from Africa and flourishes at low altitudes. Renowned for its large, teardrop-shaped beans and trees, this variety boasts a distinct, woody, and candy-like sweetness. While less prevalent than Arabica and Robusta, Liberica is increasingly captivating the specialty coffee community. The spotlight on Liberica shines on My Liberica, a pioneering farm in Kulai, Johor, Malaysia. In 2014, My Liberica made a significant leap by establishing the first Malaysian specialty coffee processing facility exclusively for Liberica beans. This state-of-the-art facility enables diverse processing methods, significantly elevating the coffee's flavor profile. A landmark collaboration in 2020 with Sasa Sestic led to the development of innovative anaerobic processing techniques. These techniques gained international recognition when Hugh Kelly employed them in the 2021 Australian World Barista Championship (WBC), showcasing the potential and versatility of Liberica coffee on a global stage. 🙌🏼 Meraki Coffee Roasters Meraki Coffee Roasters is the first specialty coffee roastery to be founded in Maldives.
